Kakande with Missia Saran Dioubate, Petit Conde & Charanga Soleil @ DROM
High-voltage classical African melodies meet Cuba & Haiti
The Guinean-Malian sound is alive and expanding with some of the most exciting West African musicians living in town. Famoro Dioubate brings it all together with his group Kakande, which also features a unique range of non-African musicians as well. Famoro will bring his band to Drom with two special guests from Guinea, including Missia Saran “The African Tina Turner” Dioubate. Famoro introduces his long friend and Guinean musical trail-blazer Petit Conde in his premier New York performance.
Charanga Soleil is a musical ensemble that brings together three of the world’s greatest dance genres: Cuban Salsa, Congolese Rumba-Soukous and Haitian Compas. Taking its name from RADIO SOLEIL D’HAITI (www.radiosoleil.com), Charanga Soleil reintroduces the tradition of a radio station represented by an orchestra, or big band.
