Join us for our brand new tango night with the best of the new wave of tango musicians in New York City. Tango Nuevo, Electro Tango. Images & sounds of Buenos Aires – A multimedia milonga where music, image and dance converge. Tango as a dynamic expression, a vortex where the “old” and the “new” expressions become present. GBH & Electric Lila invite you to unwind or dance to the sounds of dub, reggae & dancehall supplied by DJ Emch Subatomic Sound System and a short live performance by Coolooloosh

If last Sunday was any indication, we should be in for another treat at this week’s rooftop dance & BBQ party on top of the Highbar. The breezy rooftop and spectacular view of the sunset only added to the music and good times as people danced, caught up with friends and celebrated their birthdays. For this Sunday’s edition we welcome DJ Emch from Subatomic Sound System who will be armed with a bag of goodies ranging from outernational dub and dancehall to roots reggae, while Israeli hip-hop, soul & funk outfit Coolooloosh blesses us with a short acoustic set (their full show is at Joe’s Pub on July 23). Remember, it’s all free with an RSVP.

Dance into the weekend with Cuban maestro Pepito and his big band – the finest in contemporary Timba music.

José “Pepito” Gómez has taken the U.S. by storm since his May 2008 arrival from Cuba He has two NY Times rave reviews, received an award from France, has a worldwide fan base and his last CD with Cuban band Pupy y Los Que Son Son, is currently nominated for a CubaDisco 2009 award. Pepito Gómez is best known as one of the founders, composers, and lead singers of the “Pupy” band.

His popularity all over the world was highlighted by sold-out venues like Italy’s 5000-seat Club La Tropical.  Fiestacubana.net’s 2007 best male singer received an award in Cuba for his song on environmental awareness, “Tiempo Dificiles” (Hard Times). His tenor voice, both beautiful and strong, has a unique timbre rarely found.  Fans are clamoring for more.
